I've been meaning to post this for ages and keep putting it off.

As most of you know, I teach piano. By virtue of the honor of molding young minds (*cough*), the company I purchase sheet music through has set me up with a little store so that I can funnel purchases their direction and make a wee commission off of it.

So, if you're in the market for some piano/guitar/voice/etc. music, you can help support a fellow fangirl by using this link whenever you shop Sheet Music Plus. The web site won't look any different from their regular site (so, no identifying information that you've clicked correctly). And I won't get any details about your purchase except the state where the order ships to*.

I'll even be happy to help you select appropriate music and, you know, earn the wee commission.

(*So you can buy all the Barry Manilow and Hannah Montana sheet music you want, and I will NEVER know)

I couldn't help it. The lyrics just jumped on me and wouldn't let me go.

"jumped on me and wouldn't let me go"

That is mildly terrifying.

Soooo-eeeet!

At the moment, my sheet music purchases have been confined to Pianomals, but we may be ready to branch out soon. Are you going to put the link on your page?

I will put it in 'memories' and if I need sheet music (as I sometimes do) I will use it. Do you have a lot of, er, old folk songs, Thomas Moore, war songs, etc? Did you know I used to teach music too, once?

I've been very impressed and the breadth of their collection, so it's quite possible they've got what you're looking for. I noticed they've got a treasury of Civil War sonds, so that bodes well...

And no, I had no idea you used to be a music teacher! What did you teach?

Wow! (Almost) de ja vu.

Well, this seals it! I have been contemplating selling my flute for a couple months now but I can never bring myself to actually list it for sale. Honestly, I've pondered selling my flute several times over the years but again, just never really want to let it go. You see, I kind of love my flute - regardless of it's less than stellar reputation, or it's 'student' status (Gemeinhardt, M2, closed hole). I got it waaaayyyy back in 7th grade and I've always loved playing it, even some odd *mumbles* years later.

I was talking to a friend recently about how dumb it was to keep it since I haven't even had it out of the case since moving to this apartment - even on the low notes, a flute note just carries so well and in an apartment setting it's just really not practical to think I can get away with playing it without complaints from the neighbors. But then le friend pointed out that I could always take it with me when I go home and play it at the madre's house. I countered with "I play from memory, I don't even have sheet music anymore"....

And then here you are. With sheet music! :)

I feel this is a 'sign'. Or at least I'm going to say it is. :) I've already looked at the site and I'm thinking I'll start small, with some Christmas music, and go from there. It's been at least five years since I've even read any sheet music so probably best if I get a 'beginner' book as well just to make sure I remember what I'm reading. lol

I think I'll be taking my flute with me when I head home for Christmas this year. :D

:)

It's meant to be then!!! How many years did you play before your flute went into hibernation?

Well, I'd say my flute went through 'stages' of hibernation. :) First, I played in school - your normal student band thing - for 3 years. Or was it four?? And then I kept playing, but much less, when sports and band fully interfered with each other and I chose sports, so that was just me playing in my home, with sheet music, when I got a chance. Theennn, I got my own place, with a roommate, and played much less since I only played when my roommate wasn't home. And you can probably see the pattern. :)

It has stayed in it's case for the last few years, only being taken out when I'd have some nostalgic moment, but each time I play (no sheet music now), I remember just how much I enjoy it and miss it. It'll be nice to take it home and really play (instead of just making light airy sounds due to neighbors), and especially to have something besides just those those songs I know from memory to enjoy.

Although... I think I do have one piece of "sheet music" - the pc. of 2x4 that my grandfather saved, in which I wrote out a whole song on one day when I was much younger and accidentally got locked out of the house. It was the only thing I could find to write on in the garage while I waited for someone to come home. :) But so far I haven't found a stand sturdy enough to hold up a board while I play the tune. LOL ('Poppy' was so proud of that stupid thing! LOL *wonders what ever happened to that*)
