Mmmm, soup

Mmmm. Making soup stock from the turkey I cooked last week. The entire house smells like soup, and the cats are going berserk.

We're headed for a weekend of massive cleaning. My mom wrote *yesterday* to ask that we make 'arrangements' for the dogs rather than bring them to her house for Thanksgiving. I know that there are a thousand reasons why I really shouldn't be complaining about this, particularly given that she's footing the bill and it's her house after all, but it's the fact that she changed her mind with one week's notice that is chaffing. That, and it sets a precedent of needing a pet-sitter for every time we visit. Perhaps we can work something out in the future so that we can bring them without them driving her nuts. We did have a rough visit over the summer (both myself and the dogs drove her nuts, hooray us - she, however, didn't let on that either the dogs or me were bothering her until the night before we left (after two hours of 'silent treatment'), leaving us no opportunity to improve the situation). Pet-sitters don't come cheap, and we were damn lucky to secure one on short notice. Bleh, all this makes me very happy that the holiday schedule calls for us to stay home at Christmas this year.

*headdesk*

We do have a lovely dinner scheduled Sunday with DH's family.

I hope I can manage to get over my irritation before we arrive at mom's.

You cooked a turkey prior to thanksgiving? Silly button. Sorry to hear of the mother frustrations. Mine drives me batty as well. Moms are good at that sort of thing. happy holidays /sarcasm

Yup. Turkeys were on sale, and my mom's taken to cooking a small breast along with another meat (brother and SIL don't like turkey). Oh, but it was soooo good. I used Alton Brown's brine recipe.

We've got another one in the freezer, and it may not last very long before it's cooked too.

It would have been nice to have both, but I'll live. :)

I'm sure it will be nice not to have the dogs underfoot... and to return home to a sparkling clean house.
