Please excuse the complete stream of consciousness of this post. *points at title*
Normally Bockfest consists of a long night of celebrating the arrival of spring with the consumption of Bock beer (Bock or doppelbock being the most common varieties, doppelbock being stronger). Our fair city crowns a Sausage Queen and celebrates with a parade, complete with goat (because really, what isn't better with a goat?). There's also a three-hour Prohibition Tour that once again we had to skip.
Due to the current state of mah foot, we began our celebrations ahead of the throng and headed out around 4:30 to catch an early dinner. Alas, the restaurant was out of 'Smokin Rabbit', which I assume was some form of Hassenpfeffer. I was salivating for this dish of rabbit marinated in a sauce of dried cherries, thyme, and bock beer. Alas. The lamb/bock beer/lime/cumin kebabs were nice, but the Thai Pumpkin soup and creme brulee that bookended the meal were much, much nicer. And the Schoenling Bock. Mmmmmm. Lovely caramel notes.
By the time we left, the restaurant was PACKED, and I had to escape via a side exit. Because travelling through the packed bar on crutches? Sooooo not gonna happen.
So now I'm back, with elevated foot and happy tummy. And with this celebration of spring, I'm reminded that I really need to pay attention to those seed catalogs that have come in the mail.
*cheers*
