1. What did you do in 2008 that you've never done before?
Got fired. Ran a marathon. Wrote 50,000 words of fiction. Made friends I only know through the internet.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
More or less. My one resolution was to see one concert a month. I skipped a couple months, but saw twelve total.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
One of my running teammates collapsed during the NYC marathon and later died. We weren't close, but it was painful all the same.

UK in mind, but not in body.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Clarity about my career. A job that makes me happy.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 6 – the day I was asked to chose between tending my resignation or be fired
May 17 – the day I signed up to train for a marathon and raise money for leukemia research
May 20 – my last day at work
August 18 – I wrote a very tentative and timid email seeking a beta for The Witches of Gilford

Running a marathon.

I'd say getting fired, but honestly I'm happy that happened.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Snort. Shin splints, knee pain, IT band pain. All self-wrought what with the marathon training. I'd highly recommend being able to run more than 2 consecutive miles before deciding to run a marathon.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Chocolate GU
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My husband put up with an awful lot this year. My marathon coaches were pretty awesome too.

Bills... and running!!!!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Running, Severus Snape, and a certain book club

“You Are a Runner, and I Am My Father's Son” by Wolf Parade
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Definitely happier. The old job was baaaaad. So bad I didn't realize how bad.

c) richer or poorer? Poorer, but so much better off. :)

Physical therapy for my aching legs. :)
20. How will you be spending New Years?
Playing Catan with Mr. PJPants

Happiness.

Running is cheaper than therapy. (It's true! I even have underwear that says so!)
Also, you are in charge of your own happiness.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Like a pizza in the rain
No one wants to take you home
But I love you just the same
