2008 meme
1. What did you do in 2008 that you've never done before?
Got fired. Ran a marathon. Wrote 50,000 words of fiction. Made friends I only know through the internet.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
More or less. My one resolution was to see one concert a month. I skipped a couple months, but saw twelve total.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
One of my running teammates collapsed during the NYC marathon and later died. We weren't close, but it was painful all the same.
5. What countries did you visit?
UK in mind, but not in body.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Clarity about my career. A job that makes me happy.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 6 – the day I was asked to chose between tending my resignation or be fired
May 17 – the day I signed up to train for a marathon and raise money for leukemia research
May 20 – my last day at work
August 18 – I wrote a very tentative and timid email seeking a beta for The Witches of Gilford
September 19 – I published the first chapter of The Witches of Gilford
October 19 – I ran a marathon!!!!!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Running a marathon.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I'd say getting fired, but honestly I'm happy that happened.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Snort. Shin splints, knee pain, IT band pain. All self-wrought what with the marathon training. I'd highly recommend being able to run more than 2 consecutive miles before deciding to run a marathon.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Chocolate GU
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My husband put up with an awful lot this year. My marathon coaches were pretty awesome too.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Sarah Palin, my ex-boss
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills... and running!!!!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Running, Severus Snape, and a certain book club
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
“You Are a Runner, and I Am My Father's Son” by Wolf Parade
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Definitely happier. The old job was baaaaad. So bad I didn't realize how bad.
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner! (hooray for marathon training!)
c) richer or poorer? Poorer, but so much better off. :)
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Stretched my legs properly.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Physical therapy for my aching legs. :)
20. How will you be spending New Years?
Playing Catan with Mr. PJPants
21. What was the best book you read?
Ummmm. Books. Those are the paper things, right? Hmm. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that the only actual book I read was Your Services Are No Longer Required: The Complete Job-Loss Recovery Book.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Pulled my head out of my ass and fell in love with my husband again.

Too many to count: Severus, Lucius, Draco......
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Big Bang Theory
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Happiness.
28. What did you want and not get?
Can't think of a single thing!

That was released in theaters this year: Dark Knight (the only one I saw in theaters). That I saw this year: Eastern Promises.

Lunch with my college roomie. Dinner with my new running friend. Cake and Catan with Mr. PJPants' cousin. I turned 33.

Duh. Severus Snape.
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Running is cheaper than therapy. (It's true! I even have underwear that says so!)
Also, you are in charge of your own happiness.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Like a pizza in the rain
No one wants to take you home
But I love you just the same

Mmmm, mulled port. Just Christmas Ale to recover from here, and I seem to have slept off any ill effects.

Of course, keeping all that anger inside is never good. Who knows what will happen.
HOWEVER! I did like the "If you could tell me what to write..." meme, and I ran around and prompted a few people. Did you do that one? I don't remember prompting you.
Here's your prompt (and none of this, "But luuuuuula, I never did that meme!"):
Severus Snape wrapped the charcoal gray scarf around his neck three times before settling his chin into it and opening the door. Nearly bowled over by the wintry gust, he almost didn't notice the bedraggled cat that entered along with the wind, shoving past his booted ankles.
Almost.
"Miss Granger, I believe I told you never to come here again."
The cat looked up, miserably cold and shivering.
"Stuff it, Professor. I need your help."
There ya go. Weren't looking for a prompt on the first day of 2009, were you? Talking cat!Granger, hmph. Stupid prompt.
Happy New Year, PP!!! May it bring oodles of creativity, dry,hot pizza, and AR in your bedroom.

The prompt is rather simple and likely not that original; I know I've seen variants of it elsewhere. A story that starts with SS having a jolly time wanking, but realizing upon completion, to everyone's mortification, that he's had an audience. Incredibly flustered, he excuses himself with or without his usual snark. Of course, the seeds of curiosity have been sown with his audience. Seduction later ensues.
Snermione, Snarry, and (shock and amazement) Snily accepted. (Finding the idea of awkward!teenage!Severus caught by Lily oddly intriguing)
Hmmm. Perhaps I should just fish around for prompts and see if I can start a wank challenge.

Damn you.
Wanking!Snape is my very, very, very favorite.
That is all I shall say for now.
(working on New Years Snermione)

Or are you just intriqued by the wank challenge?

And Eastern Promises was indeed awesome =D

I'm still happy to see the backside of 2008 though.
