Melodrama

Gah! I've done it again.

I started reading a story and realized a couple chapters in that I really didn't like the story very much. Way too high on the melodrama scale. And did I stop reading this story? Nope. I kept going, thinking that perhaps the initial melodrama would be resolved and the story would go along it's merry way. But, of course, the drama continued. And so did I. It was like watching a train wreck. Every chapter a new crisis and emotional breakdown. And yet I couldn't stop.

Am I the only one who falls into this trap?

you are definitely not the only one!

right now i am following one of the challenge fics and it's so full of melodrama, and about half the time i'm not sure i like it, but in the very beginning i liked the concept and i find myself unable to quit it.

There's a current story (not a challenge fic though) that I had to abandon, even though it's full of smutty goodness. I really liked the original premise, but then a spurious plot contrivance and continued melodrama just kept frustrating the heck out of me. I'm actually pretty proud of myself for resisting the temptation to read it.
